What Is Online Perfect Pairs?
Online Perfect Pairs is a popular variant of Online Blackjack. Perfect Pairs is like the regular Blackjack you know, with only a slight difference. The difference is that you can make a side bet, which gives you the chance to win a large jackpot. Apart from the side bet, this casino game works just like the regular European version of Blackjack.
The game requires you to make a side bet that your first two cards will be a pair. There are only three types of pair that can give you a payout: mixed pair, coloured pair and perfect pair.
The first thing you do is settle the aspect of the side bet. After this, you play according to the standard Blackjack rules. There could also be additional rules, depending on the casino you play at.
Perfect Pairs Rules
When you start a round of Perfect Pairs, you have to place the perfect pairs side bet alongside the main bet. The Perfect Pairs bet does not have to be the same as the regular bet, only that it cannot go lower than the minimum bet of the table.
You are then dealt two cards and the dealer is also dealt two. Your two cards are faced up while the dealer has one faced up and one down. Winning or losing the side bet is determined by the first two cards. You win when the two cards are a matching pair.
The payout of your side bet win is determined by the type of matched pair you have. You can find a payout table further down in this guide.
After the side bet is done with, the main game can continue with the same rules as Blackjack. You have to make any of the regular moves. Your options are to either stand, hit, double down, or split.
Types of Side Bets In Perfect Pairs
Mixed Pair
When you get a mixed pair, you get two cards matching with the same number or face value. They will be of different suits and colour. For example, having Hearts 2 and Spades 2 is having a mixed pair.
If you win with a mixed pair, you get a payout of 5/1.
Coloured Pair
You get a coloured pair when your two initial cards have the same value and colour. The difference between cards in a colour pair is the suit. For example, an Ace of Spades and an Ace of Clubs is a coloured pair. This pays 10 /1.
Perfect Pair
A perfect pair is obtained when the two initial cards are alike in every aspect. They have the same face value, colour and suit. An example of this is two Queens of Diamonds. It pays 30/1.
Paytable for Side Bets
You can find different pay tables depending on where you’re playing at as the payouts may be slightly different. See the table below to see an example of odds in a paytable.
HAND | PAYS | COMBINATIONS | PROBABILITY | RETURN |
Perfect pair | 30 | 1456 | 0.016867 | 0.506024 |

Perfect Pairs Strategies
While applying strategies do not guarantee wins, it helps you reduce chances of losing. It can also help to increase the chances of hitting a big payout.
Make a your perfect pair bet based on your regular bet
Measure your regular bet and decide the perfect pairs bet size. After an outcome is determined for your side bet, ensure it does not affect your regular bet. You can still make wins from the main game if you lose the side bet.
Double your bet if you hand is 11 or lower
You can double your bet whenever your hand score is 11 or lower. This will increase your chances in the base blackjack game.
Never split if you have two 10’s
When you have two 10s, don’t split. Following this can increase your chances in the base game.
Divide your budget
Divide your budget for side bets into units. You will first have to know the payouts offered by the casino you’re playing at. The strategy is to set a total budget to play with. Then, you divide the total budget into betting units, with each unit equal to the payout for a perfect pair.
House Edge in Perfect Pairs
House edge is the percentage of how the game favours the casino. The house edge for Perfect Pairs side is usually between 2% to 11%. As you can see, the house edge is very low, meaning that you have high chances of winning when you play perfect pairs.
The house edge varies depending on what cards you are dealt. It’s easy to calculate the house edge. Just follow the examples below to see how to do it.
When calculating the odds to get the top payout of 30 to 1 (a.k.a perfect pair), you have to determine the odds of getting a second card which is exactly like the first. After one card has been dealt, with 8 decks in play, you are left with 415 cards. Out of these 415 cards, only 7 will make your hand. So the probability of getting a perfect pair is 7/415 which is 1 in about 59.
The chance of winning 30 units is 1.69%. Same calculations for 10 units will give 1 in 51 which results in a chance of 1.93%. And for 5 units, 1 in 26 which is 3.86% chance. These values are multiplied by the number of units as follows:
- 1.69% X 30 = 50.7%
- 1.93% X 10 = 19.3%
- 3.86% X 5= 19.3%
The three possibilities are added as follows:
50.7% + 19.3% + 19.3% = 89.3%
We subtract the total percentage from 100%:
100% – 89.3% = 10.7%
For any casino which offers the same payouts as used in our calculation, the house edge is 10.7%. 89.3% is the return to player rate (RTP).
Casinos which offer higher payouts will offer lower house edge and higher RTP. The number of decks would also influence the house edge.
